Just two weeks ago, I tested for my 2nd degree black belt.  As thrilling as it was, I am even more moved by my experiences at Thousand Waves.  This amazing, small, non-profit, power-house of an organization:

• teaches children and adults true values: Love, Respect, Courage, Responsibility, and Non-Quitting-Spirit through the mind-body health practice of Seido Karate
• enables youth with severe physical disabilities to strengthen their bodies and spirits
• empowers people of all races, religions, sexual orientations, and skill levels to stand up for themselves and for others
• supports those who are unable to afford these programs with a generous scholarship fund to the tune of more than $40,000 a year.

In addition to training, I teach in the children's program and have been a volunteer board member for more than three years.  The one joy I don't have is the means to donate thousands of dollars each year to ensure our scholarship program can continue serving those in need.
