I’m participating in this year’s Spirit Challenge to raise money for my dojo, Thousand Waves, where I have been training for ten years. Among the many worthwhile things at the dojo is Adapted Seido Karate, with which I volunteer, which teaches kids martial arts to young people with severe disabilities. They also offer self defenses classes to victims of domestic abuse and provide scholarships for needy students. 

The Spirit Challenge is not some easy walk-in-the-park for fundraising. I will be participating in ten events including Muscle Endurance, Sparring, Board Breaking, HiiT Circuit and Falling and Rolling techniques, among others. 

I can say that I would not be the person I am today without the great people at Thousand Waves. They are really helping me to become a mensch.
