MOUNT WASHINGTON IS CALLING!

In its 24th year, the purpose of Mount Washington Observatory's Seek the Peak is to raise funds that sustain our forecasting, research, and educational programs. You're invited! 

  • Fundraise: Register as an individual or part of a team. Share your personal fundraising page with friends, family, and colleagues asking for support of your hike and the Observatory's work. You make it possible for us to provide hikers with weather forecasts in the White Mountains. 

  • HikeWhether you participate as a team or individual, plan to summit Mount Washington, hike other White Mountain vistas, or seek your own peak near home, rallying your supporters to donate in honor of your hiking challenge makes you a part of Seek the Peak.   

  • Celebrate: After your hike, gather with fellow participants and MWOBS supporters at our Après Hike Expo on Saturday, July 20 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Great Glen Trails. Enjoy live music, family-style dinner with Hart's Turkey Farm, beer garden, and epic gear raffle. See the full schedule.

  • Compete: Join our Business Team Competition or Students and Family Competition to compete for a unique set of prizes. If you are youth under 15 years, we'll waive your registration fee to help get you and your family on the trails. 

Again this year, you can join hikers of similar ability level with the Hike and Make Friends option. Select this option when you register. Our events team will ensure complete communication so all know when and where to meet.

Recent Activity

HIKE AND MAKE FRIENDS

This option groups up to four participants of similar ability level to complete a hike of their choosing. For this option, you'll need to hike on July 20 and meet at the registration area at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center at the designated registration time. By selecting “Hike and Make Friends,” participants agree to share their email address with up to three other participants to coordinate a hiking route beforehand. Participants may choose to do any hike and are advised to chat with a trail steward, MWOBS volunteer, or AMC staff member upon arrival at Pinkham Notch to assess trail conditions and review their selected route.

All Hike and Make Friends participants should check in at the MWOBS Seek the Peak registration area at Pinkham Notch on July 20 at the following times: 

Gentle Breeze hikers: 7:00 a.m.

Near Gale hikers: 7:15 a.m.

Hurricane Force Hikers: 7:30 a.m.

BUSINESS TEAM CHALLENGE

Any business is invited to create a Seek the Peak team with up to 12 of employees, who will compete for the Top Business Team Fundraiser! The winning team earns an educational overnight trip at our summit weather station atop Mount Washington in summer/fall 2024. Register your business team today!

STUDENTS AND FAMILY COMPETITION

Students and families are invited to participate in this year's Students and Family Competition for a chance to win awesome prizes! Youth under 15 years of age qualify for a registration fee waive to help get you started! Register here.

Be Close to the Action

Stay at AMC's Joe Dodge Lodge at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on Seek the Peak weekend so you won't miss a minute of Seek the Peak fun! Located at the base of the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, MWOBS staff will be onsite from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday July 20 to greet hikers who select this popular route up Mount Washington as their Seek the Peak hike of choice!

Purchase a trail lunch for pickup at the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center Cafe by calling 603-466-2727. These lunches are made fresh daily by our friends at the Appalachian Mountain Club.

Hiker Shuttle Services

The Mt. Washington Auto Road offers a one-way shuttle service to hikers who want a ride down from or up to the summit of Mount Washington. They will have extra shuttles ready for Seek the Peak hikers on Saturday, July 20 for those who want a ride. Cost is $55 per passenger and may be purchased from the Auto Road on a first come, first served basis on the day of the event at either the Summit Stage Office atop the mountain, or the Stage Office in the base lodge of Mt. Washington Auto Road (for those wanting a ride to the summit).
