Our son James was stillborn in 2015. After a seemingly healthy pregnancy, we were astounded to learn that in his 39th week, he died in utero. The loss of our second son was devastating. There will always be an open space in our hearts and our family where he should be. We have been very grateful for the support and kindness of our family and friends, including other "loss parents" who helped show us the way forward. 

We now know that stillbirth is common - much more than anyone realizes: one out of every 160 births in the United States. With further research and increased awareness amongst health care providers and expectant parents, it is believed that many of these deaths can be prevented. 

I hope you will join Scott and me in raising money to prevent perinatal loss, and to help researchers understand why stillbirth is still so common, despite advances in medicine and technology.
