Shortly after we moved back to Indy in 2022, I decided (kind of on a whim) to volunteer to be a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Indiana. I wanted to find a way to give back without over committing myself. A few weeks later, I got paired with an 8-year-old girl who matches my personality: quiet, a bit shy and lacking in athletic skills (although she can at least ride a bike).
Three years later, she’s become a regular presence in our family. My kids know her and love playing with her. Sometimes, they ask for her. I’ve learned a few things myself, like how to make bracelets and what pre-teens mean when they say “Ugh, cringe!”
But seriously, it’s been a rewarding and positive experience, and I hope more people do it. It’s an easy and non-demanding way to give back.
Anyway, I’m sharing this to help raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters. If you’d like to donate (we have until end of December), I’d greatly appreciate it. Every little bit helps!
