I first signed up as a Big Mentor 10 years ago in the summer of 2015. Since then my Little, Trey, has grown up before my eyes, graduated high school, and is now attending Indiana University Indy with the hopes of one day beginning a career in business. What started as a twice a month get together with a child looking for a positive adult influence has turned into a relationship that will last a lifetime. I can't think of another volunteer experience that has such a lasting impact on both parties involved.

This time of year is all about giving, and at BBBS (Big Brothers Big Sisters) of Central Indiana, while we hope you'll consider our cause for your holiday donations, it would be awesome if you'd also consider becoming a part of a great opportunity to step up as a mentor to one of 1,000 youth eagerly waiting for mentors like myself and other Bigs. That’s 1,000 lives ready to be changed, 1,000 opportunities to build connections that last a lifetime. These young people are full of potential, and they’re looking for someone who will believe in them, support them, and help guide them toward a brighter future. Our Bigs are stepping up—but we need even more people like them to meet this urgent need!

Being a Big is more than just mentoring. It’s about being a cheerleader, a listener, a teacher; it’s about standing beside our Littles and cheering them on through every milestone, challenge, and success. And most importantly, it's about being a friend, showing up and being an ear to a kid just trying to figure life out. It has been both one of the most effortless and most rewarding experiences of my life and I hope you'll consider giving back in one way or another. Thanks!
