Royce was born in Baton Rouge and moved to Vinton, LA where he lived until graduation from Vinton High School. He then enrolled in USL and was a member of the Ragin Cajun football team and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. After college, Royce began working for the Lafayette Police Department and has been employed there for the last 29 years.
