Roller Derby is nerve-wracking and tiring but it is also exciting and awesome! When I am on the derby track, I feel nervous but excited. I love derby because I love skating, being on a team, and having my own derby name - Ziggy Starbust!
I am proud that I came up with my own special name! Everyone calls me Ziggy at derby and I love it. I came up with the name Ziggy Starbust because my mom introduced me to David Bowie & I like his music. I really like how Bowie has so many personalities and cool costumes with each one. My favorite is when he was Ziggy Stardust.
Roller Derby has changed the way I feel about myself. It has made me feel more confident and taught me to be a good teammate, and try hard things. I especially love doing derby with my friend Tour Eiff' Hell (aka Marlena). She is on a different team - the Acid Pops. I was sad that we were put on different teams but I have learned that it is fun to challenge each other when we play! I am on the Lemon Drops and have made many new friends on my team. My dream is to continue on derby and be one of the older derby kids that helps coach the younger derby kids.
Your donation will help my derby team make our facility even better than it is now. It helps with things like paying for our derby home and fun events we get to go to like friday open skate time, bbqs, and hopefully a derby sleepover in the spring! It also pays for our cool team jerseys, photos, and medics for our bouts (games) in case we hurt ourselves.
