Many of you know I work for Society for disABILITIES. I had previously been volunteering here for about 5 years before becoming an employee here. This organization is near and dear to my families heart. Please help with what you can.
For over 70 years the Society for disABILITIES has been enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities within the Central Valley. The Society provides recreational programs for people with diverse abilities including: adapted snow ski, water ski, bike camp, a Day on the Farm, bowling, prom and more. They also operate the largest loan closet of adapted medical equipment within Northern California, loaning out walkers, wheelchairs, bedside commodes and hospital beds for those in need. They also are a resource and referral agency for the community.
Many individuals with disabilities do not have the opportunity to participate in recreational programs due to financial constraints, disability, and lack of proper adapted equipment. The Society for disABILITIES offers unique programs. These programs give children the opportunity to participate in activities they never dreamed possible. For many it’s the first time they have participated in a sporting activity with their family. The programs significantly:
• Increase self esteem & self confidence
• Provide Inclusion
• Provide positive change in family dynamics
• Improved quality of life through recreation
• Independent living & transportation
