I have decided to start the year off with a "splash" by checking off one of my longest standing bucket list items and registering for the 2020 Chicago Polar Plunge! For those of you unfamiliar with the "Polar Plunge," it is a fundraising event across the nation where people commit to plunging in cold water in order to raise money for the Special Olympics.
My late Uncle Jimmy Dufek was a Special Olympics athlete and the organization has always been very near and dear to my family. Therefore, in honor of our Uncle Jimmy my sisters, cousins, and I have formed "TEAM BOOTA BOOTA" (Jim's favorite word for one's backside, often used when he was trying to stir up a little trouble) and will be plunging into freezing cold Lake Michigan on March 1, 2020.
If you are able, we would love to have your support in our fundraising efforts. Anything you are able to give will help our cause and help fund programs for the most amazing, special, fun, inspiring, inclusive, loving people I have ever known.
Please let me know if you have any questions or are interested in joining our team, the more the merrier!
"Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." -Special Olympics Oath
*All funds raised will benefit the Special Olympics Chicago athletes, covering program costs such as transportation, sports equipment, team uniforms and food. Through your participation, people with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to discover new strengths, abilities and success.
