In 2018, we made the very hard decision to pull Zoe out of public school and use a voucher for a private school that specialized in educating neurodivergent students. In spite of having excellent public school teachers who worked hard to understand their needs and support their progress we saw the stress Zoe experienced from large class sizes and insufficient resources to support neurodivergent kids. This was the result of two decades of underfunding public education (we're now going on three decades).
Leaving the public education system was such a hard decision to make and I wish we hadn't needed to. At that point, I vowed that I would fight for public education with the hope that some day all schools across Arizona would have the resources to meet the needs of all their students.
