A Dream Bike-A-Thon!

Recently I had the privilege of becoming involved with one of Manitoba’s most magical charities, The Dream Factory!

If you’ve never heard of them... prepare to have your socks knocked off! The Dream Factory has made dreams come true for over 700 kids here in Manitoba who are battling life-threatening illnesses. I want to help them make even more dreams come true. But I can't do it alone.

Last year Spokes + Dreams raised $5000 thanks to the generous support from people like you. This helped Zayne's dream of visiting her family in the Philippines come true. EVERY SINGLE DOLLAR raised at Spokes + Dreams will stay right here in Manitoba to fulfill Dreams for children bravely fighting life-threatening illnesses. Kids like Ethan.

Ethan is a strong little guy battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He dreams of visiting Disney World to meet his favourite super heroes. Over the last year and a half, medications, consults, blood transfusions, lumbar punctures, and biopsies have become 'normal'. With your support, we can give Ethan and his family well deserved time away from the appointments, tests and pokes. You can help give Ethan time to just be a kid.

Today - I’m asking for your help. Please, join me in fulfilling a DREAM for Ethan, a very special child right here in our community.

On Saturday, June 13th, 2020, the 2nd Annual Spokes + Dreams Bike-a-Thon will take place at St. Vital Park. Registration will open at 10:00AM, the race itself will take place from 10:30AM-11:30AM, and we will finish the day with a BBQ, magic show and tons of fun for the whole family!

There are a few different ways that YOU CAN HELP, in this COMMUNITY FUNdraiser!

Location: St Vital Park -Sites 1 + 2 (click here to see the map)

Participants will choose how many laps they want to cycle (click here to see the map) and ask families, friends, and co-workers to sponsor their participation in the event. It can be a set donation, or a donation per lap (ex. $5 per lap at 10 laps = $50.00 donation). Every dollar raised will help bring a dream to life right here in our community.

Being able to support a young child, right here at home, was a dream come true for me. This year I hope you will join me in making Ethan's dream come true.

All participants, volunteers and sponsors will receive a lunch voucher/ticket for a free hotdog lunch. For members of the public, hotdog lunches will be available by donation. All proceeds will support our goal!

We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Carla McLennan

About The Dream Factory

DRE-Logo-4c-ONwhite.jpg

The Dream Factory is a charitable organization dedicated to fulfilling dreams for kids who are battling life-threatening illnesses. We’re unique because we’re based in Manitoba – and all of the funds we raise stay in this province to help local children. Everything we do is focused on helping sick kids and their families.

The Dream Factory relies solely on the generous support of people and businesses. Since 1983, when we were founded as The Rainbow Society, we’ve created cherished memories for more than 700 families in Manitoba.

Our mandate simply requires that a potential Dream Kid should be under the age of 18 and able to communicate their dream. We include all immediate family members in the dream and ensure that it's a memorable experience outside of the hospital environment.

On average, we fulfill approximately 30 dreams in a given year, though we have been making more and more dreams come true in recent years. In 2018, we fulfilled a record number of 35 dreams for Manitoba kids who are battling a life-threatening illness. We expect 2019 to be our busiest year yet!

The average cost of a dream is over $10,000.00 CAD, a cost that continues to increase with rising travel costs, a challenging U.S. dollar, and dreamers that keep getting more creative!

We couldn't do what we do without the incredible support of our donors and volunteers. Thank you for helping us bring even more dreams to life in 2019!

Meet Ethan

Ethan is a strong, happy, energetic little guy. At 10 months of age, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia with MLL gene rearrangement. He dreams of visiting Disney World to meet his favourite super heroes. We need your help to make that happen!

Ethan spent a next year and a half in and out of the hospital. Different medications, consults, blood work, all sorts of testing, blood transfusions, lumbar punctures, and biopsies became ‘normal.’ Regardless of all this happening, it didn’t change how cheerful and active he was. He found a love for The Avengers, and is still incredibly obsessed with them. He even yells out “AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!” or “HULK SMASH!” in his sleep! He knows the characters, and has a collection of action figures that he loves to share with others in the hospital.

Ethan was discharged from the hospital in late July and since then has been seeing his doctor at CancerCare for check-ups.

Today - I’m asking for your help. Please help fullfill Ethan's dream by being part of the 2nd Annual Spokes + Dreams Bike-a-Thon!
