If you don’t already know, Sportable is a nonprofit organization that provides adaptive sports opportunities to children, adults, and veterans who have physical disabilities and visual impairments in Richmond, VA and the surrounding region. Most of us have personally experienced the benefits of sports. Those benefits are just as powerful, and perhaps more so, for those with disabilities. In addition to improving physical and mental health, Sportable’s adaptive sports provide the opportunity to:

• Connect with peers,
• Develop confidence and independence,
• Crush personal goals,
• Overcome societal, physical, and personal barriers,
• And so much more.

Hannah has been personally impacted by Sportable and their adaptive sports programs. She has made tons of friends who also have physical disabilities through the many sports she has tried with Sportable: wheelchair tennis, kayaking, rock climbing, track, pickleball, and her favorite, wheelchair basektball. Over the years, Hannah has had the opportunity to grow from a rookie wheelchair basketball player to a team leader and then team captain. She has helped coach the prep team and looks for every opportunity to welcome and encourage younger players. In addition to making friends and developing leadership skills through adaptive sports, Hannah has increased in both independence and confidence--traveling all over the country independently and even internationally to grow as an althete and share her love of wheelchair basketball. Hannah is currently a freshman at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where she is studying to be a special education teacher while playing women's wheelchair basketball for UW-W's collegiate team--a dream made possible because of Sportable. And Hannah is just one of hundreds of Sportable athletes whose lives have been transformed for the bettter through Sportable's adaptive sports. 

The Tailgate Fundraiser is Sportable’s biggest fundraising event. Without Tailgate supporters, they wouldn’t be able to provide more than 15 different sports programs to more than 200 athletes each year.
