Once upon a time, back in OT school at VCU, we had an assignment to pick a local non-profit to volunteer for. Fortunately for me, I picked Sportable and quickly fell in love the with the amazing sense of community between the athletes, coaches, staff and volunteers.

That was 2014. Years went by and I volunteered more and more, learning many athlete stories and growing the recognize the unique role Sportable plays in our community to provide sport opportunities to children and adults with physical and visual disabilities. I've had the privilege to volunteer in many roles: serving as "pit crew" to powerchair soccer players attaching and re-attaching guards so they can kick the ball with their chairs, trying (and failing) to ride a tandum bicycle with a visually impaired athlete and friend training for his first triathlon (we had way more fun swimming and running together), kayaking the james river with athletes and volunteers who you can't tell apart once on the water as sitting in our kayaks nearly equalizes our abilities, and, most recently, proudly watching the progress of the kids in the CP soccer program as they make new friends and learn new skills. 

The Tailgate is Sportable's biggest annual fundraiser raising crucial funds for the organization. Please join me in donating to this organization that means so much to me and so many members of our greater Richmond community!
