Neurotherapeutic Pediatric Therapies is the non-profit I work for and due to this past year, they had to switch their in person fundraising gala to a virtual online event. If you are able to, I HIGHLY encourage you to support this amazing local business doing so much positive change in our community. Neuro offers a wide variety of services under one roof in several satellite offices around the greater Portland area. Neuro’s unique model of offering services breaks down so many access barriers to care. Neuro has been around for over 35 years and was initially created to fill the gap in care for the non-neurotypical and medically fragile children in our community. As Neuro has grown, so has their ability to support a very diverse population, including adults. Neuro currently offers: mental health therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, naturopathic doctors, and several community based resources with staff to support building this connection. Neuro values collaboration and holistic wellness. And the outcomes are incredible. Neuro is also an incredible business to work for, they treat staff as family and value each person as a human first. I have never felt so supported as an employee, which makes my job way more sustainable. In less than a year that I’ve worked for Neuro, I have countless examples of how various staff with a variety of expertise have helped both me and my clients thrive. And given that I advocate for my clients within so many different systems (e.g. DHS, school, doctors, psychiatrists, legal) having a supportive staff has helped to make lasting systemic change as well. When I started working at Neuro back in May 2020, I highlighted that I’ve never been an office based therapist and in fact thrived working with my clients outside. Within months several staff members supported me in creating a Nature Based program so mental health therapists could safely meet clients at local parks. Now, at least 2 afternoons a week I’m outside rain or shine with my clients; this was a huge benefit as clients were no longer restricted to only telehealth. Currently, I’m in conversation with Neuro in finalizing a plan for developing my consulting business as a DBA under Neuro to share my Nature Based knowledge. Soon I will be able to offer a wide variety of services focused on incorporating Nature, some of which will be available to you! I am so incredibly excited to be working for an amazing non-profit that is essentially allowing me to craft my dream job within their healthy business model. I believe that Neuro should be the new standard both as a business model and a business. Neuro is ahead of the curve in so many ways and I can only hope they continue to grow.
