Again this year I will be participating in the Sandy Sprint 5K on April 26. Our family team, Bangerang Boyd, will be walking to raise money for the Susan Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation based in Philadelphia. This Foundation seeks to provide advocacy and education about ovarian cancer and to raise funds to support research. According to the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer is responsible for more deaths than any other cancers of the female reproductive system, and is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. While early detection is directly linked to improved treatment options and outcomes, there is no single reliable screening tool available. Monies raised will fund current promising research to help evaluate a woman’s risk for ovarian cancer. My daughter was very fortunate to be diagnosed early and be supported by a wonderful team of medical professionals. Many women are not as fortunate.
