One of the most gratifying parts of my work at Chesapeake Conservancy is what I call “saving dirt” — helping to permanently protect the forests, wetlands, and wild lands that define the Chesapeake Bay region. Over the past five years, I’m proud to have played a role in conserving thousands of acres. We're in the forever business, ensuring these special places endure for generations.

The Chesapeake Bay Watershed — the largest estuary in North America — is a living landscape, home to 18 million people and more than 3,600 species of plants and animals. Yet every day, we lose an average of 54 acres of forest to development and rising waters, putting our natural heritage at risk.

The lands of the Chesapeake are where wildlife thrives, families build memories, and history runs deep. Protecting these forests, wetlands, and open spaces is critical to safeguarding clean water, healthy ecosystems, and the rich cultural fabric of our region.
