I am participating in Steps2Cure NF to raise awareness and support for those like me living with neurofibromatosis (NF), a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. NF looks different for everyone, but for all of us, it brings challenges that most people never see.
Growing up, I had an IEP in school and often felt different from my peers. Over the years, I have undergone more than a dozen surgeries to remove painful tumors. I have also taken part in multiple clinical trials in hopes of helping researchers find ways to shrink the tumors that can grow on our skin. Each procedure, each appointment, and each trial has been part of a bigger hope — that one day there will be better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.
Even with everything NF has brought into my life, I choose to keep moving forward. I choose to live fully, love deeply, and not let this condition define me. But I can’t do this alone.
