Leah Manth was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis-type 2 (NF2) at 7 years old. She is now 25 and through the years she has endured 18 major surgeries. Her tumors and surgeries have left her deaf in both ears, she has facial paralysis on one side, balance and mobility issues and many other deficits. In spite of all she has been through, Leah is resilient!!! She has earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work. She enjoys outside activities and being in nature.
Even at a young age, Leah was determined to live her best life and help others with NF do the same. She has sold bracelets, volunteered at fundraising events, advocated for federal research funding, spread awareness at schools, spoken at medical conferences and run in charity events, all to support her NF community. NF Northeast has been the organization that has provided endless support since 2006, when the Manth family first contacted them. NF Northeast, which NYS is a part of, serves a total of nine states, and has introduced Leah to expert physicians and researchers, support programs which have improved her everyday life, emerging treatments, and engagement with a caring and dedicated NF community.
