Why I'm Walking

Olive is my sweet, joyful 10‑year‑old NF1 hero, who is surrounded by an extraordinary community of love and support.

She was diagnosed with NF1 at just three months old and has since developed several related conditions. Supporting her medically is a remarkable team of specialists from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Boston Children’s Hospital, and NYU Langone. Through NF Northeast, we’ve also built a network of families and advocates who have walked alongside us every step of the way.

At home in northern New Jersey, Olive is surrounded by a community that has embraced her wholeheartedly. At school, she is lifted up every day by the most caring teachers, aides and therapists we could hope for — many of whom have become dear friends. And her school, our local Police and Fire Departments, neighbors, and friends have all rallied around her in ways that continue to move us deeply.

Olive is the strongest, bravest hero I know. She was recently honored as our town’s Chief of Police for a Day — a testament to how she inspires everyone who meets her.

Olive loves playing with her friends, singing, telling jokes, and even finds joy in hospital visits (helped along by the fun surprises that make them a little easier). When she grows up, she dreams of becoming a veterinarian.

I walk for Olive — and for every NF hero who deserves a future filled with possibility.
