It’s now been about 2 1/2 years since we have learned about Jameson’s disease. Sometimes the reality of what we are facing hits hard, like the first day we heard the word Dravet Syndrome. I will never forget that day. Our heads were swirling, then to get home and quickly do a google search of “Dravet Syndrome” to learn that it means: “Dravet syndrome is an intractable developmental and epileptic encephalopathy that begins in infancy and proceeds with accumulating morbidity that significantly impacts individuals throughout their lifetime. Dravet syndrome is a rare disease, with an estimated incidence rate of 1:15,700, with the majority of patients carrying a mutation in the sodium channel gene SCN1A.” -Dravet Sybdrome Foundation- Since then Craig and I have become Jameson’s greatest encourager, advocator, and biggest fan. There are days that are extremely hard and then there are days we see Gods kindness and are so thankful for those moments. Being a medical family is at times excruciatingly hard, and me and Craig often say we cannot do this l journey 1)without God and 2) without each of you who have loved, encouraged and supported us!! Jameson is in an AMAZING ASD classroom at school! He LOVES school, he loves people and loves going to church. School and church are two precious gifts we are able to give him right now. This isn’t taken lightly as there are so many with Dravet Syndrome who aren’t able to do either of these. Since finding out about Jameson’s disease, we’ve almost lost him to two prolonged seizures. We are so grateful that he’s still here with us and can help him create memories when situations are good and safe for him.
