Background info: my niece Claire started having seizures around 6-7 months and was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome. Dravet syndrome is a rare, severe epilepsy syndrome in which the seizures are hard to control and resistant to epilepsy medications. These seizures can cause developmental delays and cognitive impairment in addition to being life-threatening. Claire has finally hit her 2 month seizure free mark after being on a ketogenic diet and finding medications that work for her. Her current triggers are heat and fever (hard to avoid at daycare or school). Money towards this foundation will go towards funding more research so that she and others can continue to be seizure free.
