St. Louis Congenital Heart Walk

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I am participating in the Congenital Heart Walk to support the mission of The Children's Heart Foundation: to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects by funding the most promising research. I hope you'll join me by supporting my fundraising efforts as I work to raise funds for life-saving research.

My son, Kaden Alick Smith, lost his life to a CHD October 28th, 2021. He was only 15 years old. Although he was diagnosed with Complete Heart Block as an infant, the Cystic Tumor of the AV Node was not found until his autopsy. He had been treated by cardiologists his entire life and it had never been discovered. His cardiologist at the time of his death- had never heard of it. He had many symptoms that were ignored due to this lack of knowledge. This is the reason we need to fund further research and education for Congenital Heart Defects. With CHD's being the most common birth defect, cardiologists should know all of them- even if they are rare.

From the time Kaden could walk and talk, he was obsessed with cars, trucks and motorcycles. His dream in life was to join the army and become a diesel mechanic. He was working hard at his goal. Kaden had been taking automotive classes at school and researching every chance he got. Shortly before his death, Kaden had purchased his own truck. He bought a 1985 Dodge Prosepector, or as it was called, The Pector. He and his best friend spent hours working on that truck. He wasn't able to finish it before his unexpected death, his family has taken that over for him. We are making sure his dream truck becomes a reality.

Kaden was the best son, big brother and friend anyone could ask for. He brought a light to the lives of anyone that met him. His life should not have ended so soon.
