In July of 2022 I'll be participating in the 22nd annual Seek the Peak, a hiking and multi-sport fundraiser in support of the legendary non-profit Mount Washington Observatory. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support my endeavor.
Many many years ago Guy Gosselin took a big chance and hired a young woman to work on the summit to help with the fledgling museum (housed in the Yankee Building) and to help with whatever else needed to get done. She had the unique experience of living in very tight quarters in the old Obs with a handful of eccentric men, sometimes working one week up and sometimes working two. Jenny had worked at Pinkham and filled in the huts for the AMC before the Obs hired her. After her stint at the Obs, she returned to college but would return to the White Mountains each summer. She spent a summer as the first woman working for the State Park on the summit (which was housed in the old haunted hotel) and another summer working backcountry patrol in the Pemi for the USFS. Once the “new” state park building was erected, Jenny would often return over the years to help with EduTrips and volunteer on the summit.
Jenny looks forward to returning each summer to help where she can by volunteering with Seek the Peak and loves getting back on the summit to help with the Obs tours. She combines this visit with what has now become an annual reunion of close AMC friends from the 1970s.
