Help Me Hike in Support of Climate Research
I plan to officially finish my 48th summit of New Hampshire's four-thousand-foot mountains on Mount Washington in July 2022. This hiking journey started in 2017 and has brought me to new heights of physical awareness, emotional perseverance, and conservation advocacy.
My stories have both been a source of anxiety and wonder from others. Recounting physical ailments like lost toenails, heat exhaustion, near hypothermia, twisted ankles, and broken legs have created anxiety in those who choose a different form of recreation. Tales of majestic moose sightings, sparkling mountain lakes, colorful alpine flowers, and winter solitude fueled those family and friends who suffered from debilitating diseases, living life vicariously through my tales and pictures. Their courage and love of life inspire me to live life NOW. I will be hiking to honor my recently departed brother Larry and my dear hiking friends Joyce Wakenhut and Lance Harrington. Their love, support, tears of joy and sadness were my source of inspiration.
Love has been the foundation of my hiking journey. Love of the mountains, wildlife, and waterways. Love of friends who have made the journey by my side and from afar. Love of family who remind me how much I have to lose if I don’t safely return.
Through the looking glass of future generations, I am appealing to each of you to celebrate my 48th summit by supporting an organization whose climate research and education will help shape years of continued enjoyment of our mountains.
Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to support my endeavor.
Due to the generosity of supporters like you, the nonprofit Mount Washington Observatory has been observing and reporting on Mount Washington’s infamous conditions for 90+ years from their mountaintop weather station, maintaining one of North America's longest continuous climate records. The data they collect is utilized in forecasting models, weather reports, landmark climate research and educational outreach. The free daily forecasts that the Observatory provides are an essential resource for those wishing to enjoy the outdoors in New Hampshire's White Mountains and beyond.
Please join me in supporting this storied institution by making a donation towards my outdoor adventure. All gifts are fully tax-deductible and will help Mount Washington Observatory continue their important work in the Home of the World’s Worst Weather.
