On November 16, 2018 I received news that no one wants to hear, "your dad has a rare incurable disease called CJD". After I heard those awful words, my whole world came crashing down on me. My dad, my best friend and the strongest man I know. A man who never backed down from any fight. Now has a very rare disease that he could not even fight against?! Why was this happening?! This couldn't be real! Well, it was real and it was happening even though I did not want believe it.

This disease took away my dad, the rock in the family, the glue that held us together. This disease quickly took pieces of him away. Starting with his balance, followed by his memory, then his ability to walk, and finally, the worse of all, his ability to speak. My dad and I spoke multiple times a day, every day. One of the toughest parts to grasp was when he could no longer speak back to me. Why is there no cure? I did all I had left which was pray for a miracle however, God had other plans. Even though I don’t understand why and how my dad got this disease, I am thankful to God that I had my dad for the time that I did.

This horrific disease took my dad’s precious life on January 29th, 2019. And I know that if he had the ability to fight this disease, he would have…. No questions asked. But now, I am going to fight this disease in my dad’s memory, like he would have wanted me to. So one day, there can be a cure. The CJD foundation has provided a great amount of help and information. I am very thankful that there is a resource like the CJD foundation. Especially since not many people have heard about this rare disease.
