My husband was dying and we had no idea.  I started to see noticeable changes in him back in March of 2018, we went to various doctors, including 3 neurologists and 2 hospitals before we received the devastating news that he had this terrible disease known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD). I also found out that it was terminal and there was nothing we could do, I was  informed that this is a rare, degenerative, invariably fatal brain disorder. It affects about one person in every one million people per year worldwide; in the United States there are about 300 cases per year and runs a rapid course. This gut-wrenching news was given to me on November 15, 2018. 

I brought my husband home to care for him, which I did with the help of our daughters and extended family. The man who had always been the one to take care of everyone now needed 24 hour care. He fought long and hard against this disease, but the inevitable happened and he passed away on January 29, 2019. 

Anyone who knows me knows I am not one that likes to ask for help, but now, for my husband, I am asking. There is very little known about this disease, even by medical professionals (which is why it took so long for us to get a diagnosis).  I am asking you to please donate whatever you can, your donation will go directly to the CJD Foundation to research this disease and hopefully find a cure. This is the only way research can be done as there is currently no government funding to research CJD. Your donation will help fund the research that is so desperately needed. 

My husband’s life meant everything to me and I refuse to allow his death to be in vein. I want to honor his memory by bringing awareness about this disease and by raising money to help research so that we may be able to better understand it and hopefully find a cure so no one should have to go through what my husband had to endure.  Please donate, it doesn’t matter how little, every little bit helps.
