We miss you mom - Stephen, Michael, Amy and Andrea
Our Story
Our mom/wife, JoAnn Wasilkowski, was a high school math teacher and had just retired in January of 2019. She came to Texas to visit me in June 2019 and I noticed something was wrong. I noticed a tremor in her right arm/hand and her vision/depth percetion was off and her memory was getting worse. Me being a nurse, my first thougth was maybe a stroke or Parkinson's. I was adamant that she go to see a doctor as soon as they get home, she did not. Early July my mom was working in her garden and came inside and told my dad she did not feel well. She was taken to the hospital and the first diagnosis was uncontrolled hypertension. After a couple days she was sent home with medicaiton and was told to follow up with her doctor. At this point her speech was slurred and she had trouble walking and talking. Two weeks later she had a seizure and again was taken to the hospital, this time she never came home. She was tested for everything and every test kept coming back negative, no cancer, no Lyme Disease, no tumors. Before we were given the news I saw on an MRI the words CJD as a possible cause, so I looked it up and thought no way could this be it. But on August 23, 2019 this is what our mom/wife would die from. Thank you for reading her story.
