Hello everyone, I started this fundraising page in memory of my grandmother Helen Farina. She was abruptly taken from us in the beginning of 2020 from this horrendous disease called creutzfeldt-jakob disease (CJD). CJD is a rare neurodegenerative prion disease with rapid progression that leads to dementia and then death. It’s so rare that there is very little information about this disease and not many people know about it. It is a very fast and sad process to watch your loved one deteriorate in front of your eyes and not be able to do the things they were able to do before. Of course her family was there for her and by her side every single day, there wasn’t a day she was alone during this, but there is no treatment or cure, so i’m asking for donations in any amount in my grandmothers name to help find a cure for CJD so that another family doesn’t have to go through what my family went through. Normally we would be walking in october and I would walk all the way to heaven and back, but since the pandemic, it is now virtual. My family and I are trying to raise $1,000 by August 21st to get my grandmothers name on our shirts. I was very close with my grandmother, I saw her almost every day and she was one of my best friends. We would always talk to each other about everything, (even other family members) lol. We would call each other just to talk for hours if I got too busy with school and work and hadn’t seen her for a bit. I remember one night she called me up because she couldn’t wait until the next day when she was going to see me to tell me something and we ended up staying on the phone for about 2 hours just talking and laughing. She would always call me when the weather wasn’t nice, if it was raining, snowing, hailing, thundering or anything just to make sure I was safe, home and not going out, -as she did with all of her grandkids & kids as well. She had such a big, kind, loving heart that made her so very special to everyone ? My grandmother loved life, wine, and chocolate but most of all she loved us. We love you gma and miss you so much. They say this disease happens to one in a million people, and to me, my grandmother was one in a million.
