Whether you knew him as Mayor Hall, Doctor Hall, Mr. Hall, or Lincoln 1, Harvey L. Hall left a legacy of service and community giving as Bakersfield's 25th Mayor and Founder of Hall Ambulance Service, Inc. 

Strides for CJD enables families to pay tribute to loved ones and raise awareness of this rare neurodegenerative disease that currently has no treatment or cure.  CJD is caused by “prions,” proteins that can misfold in the brain, with devastating effect, including rapid mental and physical deterioration.  Prion diseases are invariably fatal. 

Mayor Hall succumbed to the sporadic form of CJD on May 19, 2018.  To honor him and bring awareness to CJD, the Hall Family has joined with the national CJD Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization, to raise funds to provide family support, medical education, and research programs. 
 

JOIN US VIRTUALLY FOR STRIDES FOR CJD - BAKERSFIELD 2020 
With the lingering impact and uncertainty of the public health crisis at hand, the Hall Family, in cooperation with the national CJD Foundation, has decided to make Strides for CJD 2020 a virtual event. Although we cannot walk in a large group, we are still one strong, empowered community of people who are determined to make a difference against Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a rare neurodegenerative disease for which there is currently no treatment or cure.  

Let’s come together, virtually, on Sunday, October 11, as we walk in memory of Bakersfield’s 25th Mayor, Harvey L. Hall, and others in this community who have lost their lives to this disease.   

To support the 3rd Annual Strides for CJD – Bakersfield, we invite you (and others in your household) to register and join Team Big H, in Memory of Harvey L. Hall, and take a walk or run through your neighborhood, at a park, or along the Kern River Bike Path (abiding by current guidelines) as we Stride toward a world without CJD.   
 

Getting involved in the Strides for CJD – Bakersfield Virtual Event is simple:   

• Go to strides4cjd.com and click on the Bakersfield event  

• Register as a Team Member or Fundraiser and join Team Big H, in Memory of Harvey L. Hall  

• Share your page with your family, friends, and co-workers encouraging them to get involved   

• Gold, Diamond, and Platinum Sponsors will have their name or logo imprinted on the national Strides for CJD event T-Shirt.  This includes qualifying teams! (Deadline for sponsors to be included on the shirt is August 21) 

• T-shirts will be mailed to you prior to our event date (the deadline for a registrant to be guaranteed a t-shirt is September 1.

TWO WEEKS AND SEVEN HOURS- A MESSAGE FROM LAVONNE C. HALL

Two weeks and seven hours.  That is the unimaginable period of time that took place from when we received Harvey's diagnosis of sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease to when his battle came to an end.  

I was left lost and searching for answers and information about this rare disease. From that moment, I vowed to become a strong advocate dedicated to finding a treatment and cure for CJD.  The CJD Foundation provided solace, and I soon learned that I was not alone. I've since read about and have met other CJD families with similar experiences.

Amazingly, much of the funding for research projects is underwritten by those who have lost a loved one to CJD and by those who host or participate in one of the 20 Strides for CJD events across the U.S. That’s why your support and involvement matters!

For the past two years, Strides for CJD – Bakersfield has earned Top Fundraising Site, and Team Big H, in Memory of Harvey L. Hall, has achieved Top Fundraising Team in the United States.
