Gina was an amazing woman!! She lived a highly functioning beautiful life. She took care of herself, worked out and ate a healthy diet. She worked two jobs, cared for her parents, and still found time to be a best friend to all of us! Her smile lit up the room! One day, literally one day, all that changed. It started with a sleepless night and a twitch in her leg. Within a few days, symptoms progressed. She began to have balance issues and needed assistance to walk. Family and friends took turns caring for her while doctors tested for so many illnesses. Two months later, the devastating diagnosis came...Creutzfeldt-jakob disease. CJD. What is that??? We never heard of this mystery illness. The doctors explained. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare, rapidly worsening brain disorder that causes unique changes in brain tissue and affects muscle coordination thinking, and memory. There are about 350 cases per year in the U.S. The two main symptoms of CJD are: Severe mental deterioration and dementia. As her family and caregiver, I turned to the CJD foundation for answers and guidance. What an unbelievable organization this is!! They were there for all our questions, phone calls and tears. Gina passed away 8 days after diagnosis. Without this organization, my family would not have been able to get through this. We own them a deep debt of gratitiude. I will forever, do whatever I can to assist them so they may continue helping families and patients stricken with CJD. Please help me do that!! Join our team.. Ginas Footprints. You can walk with us, sponsor us, or be our cheerleader and help spread our message!! Thank you in advance for all your support!!

About Strides for CJD
Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
Funds raised support our programs including:
- Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
- Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
- Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
