My Personal Fundraising Page
I was 25 years old and enjoying my first year of marriage when tragedy struck my family. My sister had just had her first baby, giving my dad his first grand baby! My dad and mom were so excited to be beginning a new life as grandparents in Colorado, while leaving behind the life they had built in Canada! It was an exciting time for our family with so many new beginnings. Thanksgiving 2009, everything changed. My dad was alone in Canada because my mom was in Colorado helping my sister with her new baby. We didn't know he was suffering. He wasn't going to work, he was getting lost and unable to find his way home, he would see things that weren't there, his mobility suffered as well as his communication. The doctors and nurses didn't know what was wrong with him. My sister, being in the medical field, had to advocate for the testing to be done to determine whether he had CJD. This disease is a monster. It turned our dad into someone we barely recognized. In just two short months of being hospitalized he was gone at only 52 years of age. Our lives were shattered!
I am participating in Strides for CJD to help raise awareness and raise money for research programs that will someday lead to a cure! No family should have to go through this alone and watch their loved one suffer this way!
We miss our dad every single day but we know he is always with us...watching over his precious 5 grandchildren! We love you D.O.D. (Dear Old Dad)!

About Strides for CJD
Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
Funds raised support our programs including:
- Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
- Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
- Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
