Over a year ago, my life changed forever with the passing of my father. He was the light of our lives and always had a smile that never ended. My father was everything to me, and once we noticed that he was acting in a different demeanor we immediately took him to the hospital. They first tried to diagnose him with depression, which was something that he never suffered from even when he battled cancer twice. We knew that the diagnosis was incorrect so we took him to a different hospital, and there they started to suspect it was CJD following an MRI. My father did not realize what was going on, and was rapidly deteriorating in front of our eyes. Following a spinal tap test, they were sure that he had CJD. We kept fighting and praying that it was some other curable disease, but unfortunately the doctors were not wrong with their diagnosis this time around. Our entire family gathered around during his battle and showered him with love. We were even lucky enough to celebrate one final birthday with him on May 9th, 2022 and sang him happy birthday for the last time ever. My father passed on May 12th, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife of 32 years. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about my dad. I wish with all of my heart to bring awareness to CJD, and hopefully one day find a cure so that no other family has to go through what we went through. The neverending love that he had for me keeps me pushing to be better every day, and I know that he's watching our family from above.
