Please join us in our efforts to raise awareness around Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), an extremely rare and always fatal neurodegenerative disease with no current treatment or cure. It affects about one person in every one million per year worldwide and the average life expectancy is 6 months.
We're participating in memory of Eileen Burke, a loving mother, wife, friend, healer, and helper to many. Eileen was taken from us last year after a short, yet courageous battle with CJD. She loved nothing more than to get outside and exercise at every opportunity, so it only feels fitting that we take part in this walk in her honor.
Strides for CJD helps provide family support, medical education, and research programs to help find treatments and hopefully a cure. Sadly, due to the rarity and rapidly progressive nature of this horrible disease, by the time the diagnosis is received, most are already in the final stages. This was the case with Eileen, as we lost her 9 days after receiving the devastating news. If our efforts, however big or small, can help fund research that eventually prevents one less family from having to experience such a loss, then we will consider it a success.
Thank you for helping us carry on her legacy and fight for a cure to CJD.
