This is for my dad, Daniel Pleban, who died of sporadic CJD on December 18,2019.  Sporadic CJD is the most common type of this prion protein disease (85%) and despite that, it isn't know how they get it.  Other types of CJD are genetic (does not skip generations), variant (from eating meat from cows with Mad Cow Disease in England), and iatrogenic (from things like surgery or growth hormone from the 1970's).  Iatrogenic is rare.  It is also thought that we have seen the last of the variant from Mad Cow Disease.  Unfortunately, there isn't a cure.  Donations go toward research of this devastating disease.
