In February of this year, whilst in perfect health, Doug began to suffer from dizziness and blurred vision after contracting a sinus infection.  Everyone thought this was a normal illness that would quickly pass, but despite multiple check-ups and good medical attention, the symptoms gradually worsened over the ensuing weeks and on June 14 he was diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.  As you probably know, CJD is a very rare neurodegenerative condition that is untreatable and invariably fatal.  We are all devastated by this news.

It's now July 28. 

Doug is resting at home and is not in pain or suffering from anxiety due to a merciful side effect of this disease called anosognosia. Amazing Tim (a private caregiver) and I are caring for Doug along with an incredible network of friends and family.  We are thankful for the overwhelming support we have received. Thank you!

I'm am pleased to announce that we are organizing a fun run/walk in honor of Doug on October 2 at 9:00 AM, at Memorial Park in Houston, TX. This event will raise money for the CJD Foundation. The funds will drive research, conferences, and support the CJD community. In the short time that I have interacted with this Foundation, I have been impressed by their support and dedication to finding a cure for CJD and helping families who are devastated by this illness.

There are two ways to participate. You can either sponsor Doug's team (no t-shirt), or you can register to run/walk (t-shirt included) and sponsor the team as well. The event is virtual so I invite all of you to participate in some way. If you can't join us in person,  we'd be delighted to see your photos.  It would be amazing to receive photos from all over the country and the world!
