In January 2023, my Padre was admitted to the hospital. We had no idea what was going on with him, except he was not talking like he use to, was stumbling while walking, and forgetting things. Doctors saw him and were clueless but they started running a bunch of tests. Two weeks into our stay at the hospital we finally had our diagnosis CJD. We had tests still out that we were waiting for and we prayed nonstop that it could be anything else. To our dismay it was infact CJD. My Padres fate was made. The doctors didn't have any treatment plans they could give us and my Padre started deteriorating before our eyes and eventually passed away exactly four weeks after he was admitted. While my heart hurts because of our loss, all I want is for doctors and scientists to find a way they could treat this horrible disease. I don't want any family to go through what we went through. I want to help anyone who gets the rare disease to pull through and not have the hurt that we have felt.

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
