Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disease, has impacted my family and close friends as my mother, Marla, received the diagnosis in November 2023 at just 59 years old. There are four subtypes and the most common is sporadic, which is what we believe Mom to have, but there are a lot of unknowns around CJD.
This disease is a rapid progressive dementia and is currently only managed through supportive care as there is no other form of treatment or cure. At this time, we are currently 9 months from the time of diagnosis and the decline Mom has suffered has been fast and still continuing.
By supporting our team and kindly donating, your donation will support CJD and the research behind this prion disease. Current research indicates the average lifespan from symptom onset is 6 months to 2 years, but with your help, this could help change lives for those in future who will face this horrible disease.
Our team goal of $10k will create a research grant in Mom's name which will carry on her legacy for a lifetime - thank you for helping support!
