In October of 2013 I lost my Beautiful Intelligent Sister Adriana to a horrible disease called Cruetzfeldt-Jakob Disease also known as CJD. I can't even begin to tell you how fun and wonderful Adriana was as a sister, daughter, friend, cousin, coworker, neighbor, wife and her most loved role a mom to three beautiful sons! Adriana spread love and happiness to everyone she knew with her vivacious personality! CJD this absolutely horrible disease is the polar opposite of Adriana. There is no cure. I still can't even put into words how quickly and horrific the symptoms are. I can't even think about other families going through what we went through. This disgusting disease needs to be researched and cured ASAP. No one should go through this.
WHAT IS CJD? TYPES/CAUSES OF CJD Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is a rare, fatal brain disorder within a group of illnesses called prion diseases. The incidence of CJD cases worldwide is one to two cases, per million individuals, per year. In the United States this statistic translates to nearly 500 new cases per year. There is one CJD death per every 6,000 to 10,000 deaths in the U.S. each year. Eighty-five percent of CJD cases are sporadic, meaning there is no known cause at present.

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
Funds raised support our programs including:
Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
