As our mother’s communication skills deteriorated, she reiterated two statements over-and-over again: “Never waste a minute” and “Never give up.” I got involved with Strides for CJD in efforts to heed this advice one more time. Her contagious selflessness taught us to do what we can to ensure that no one must suffer through this alone and that someday we can rid the world of this terrible disorder. Just as she did at every event in our lives, with every step we continue to take we can still hear her on the sidelines cheering, “Never give up!”

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.
