My brother was diagnosed with CJD in March of 2024 and given 4-8 months to live. He lived for 4 months and a week, passing away at 13:21 on July 13th 2024. My brother was a great older brother. He had a wonderful 40 year marriage, and had 3 sons. His family was all able to be with him in the end. One of the last wishes he had was that more could be known about this horrible disease. He said he wanted the CJD foundation to do an autopsy to help learn about this illness. A small miracle happened, and emphasizes why education about this disease is so vital. No One in Alaska, hospitals, mortuaries, or clinics would allow the autopsy, as it's a dangerous disease outside the body (despite the CJD autopsy teams knowing how to deal with this). However The miracle was someone in Alaska who runs an animal clinic offered her facility for the autopsy. Yes my Veteran Brother had to have his autopsy done in an animal clinic because the medical community isn't educated enough about CJD. People don't know enough about this disease, my brother, according to his immediate family was treated like the plague after his death, despite simple precautions that can be handled. I ask you to consider donating through this page for the Denver CJD walk. If you can join us, please do. if you can donate, the funds go towards education, assisting families dealing with this disease and more. Please know everyone associated with the CJD foundation, and those affected by this horrible disease are grateful for your help, and hope this disease can one day be eliminated.
