UFFDA for Brenda

Strides4CJD team UFFDA for Brenda was created in 2020 in memory of Brenda Miller. She was diagnosed with sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease in October of 2019. After fighting a courageous battle, she passed away on June 7, 2020, at the age of 57 years.

We strive to educate and bring awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, especially through the Strides4CJD walk event. Brenda and her family have always been willing to volunteer for their family, friends, church, community, and schools. This is a way to honor her legacy by helping other families affected by CJD.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD) is a rare, fatal brain disorder within a group of illnesses called prion diseases. The incidence of CJD cases worldwide is one to two cases, per million individuals per year. In the United States this statistic translates to nearly 500 new cases per year. Eighty-five percent of CJD cases are sporadic, meaning there is no known cause at present.

This year our Brownton event is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026 in Brownton. Activities planned include a candlelight tribute, breakfast, silent auction, games, crafts and the Strides4CJD walk/run all to take place or start from the Brownton Community Center.

Brenda and her family have always volunteered to help others. Please consider joining us on October 3rd to celebrate Brenda's giving spirit by helping other families affected by CJD.

We sincerely appreciate your support!

About Strides for CJD

Strides for CJD is an annual walk/run to raise awareness of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a rare neurodegenerative disease that has no treatment or cure. Through this event, anyone -- anywhere -- can pay tribute to their loved ones and raise funds for the CJD Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization.

Funds raised support our programs including:

  • Our 24/7 helpline, support groups, conference, and other family programs throughout the year.
  • Research grants to help scientists make important discoveries and bring us closer to a cure.
  • Medical education to help raise awareness and understanding of prion disease.
