On Tuesday, March 10, 2019, we will participate in the 9th Annual Strikes, Spares, and Splits event, a night of bowling to benefit Read Ahead, and hosted by the Read Ahead Junior Board. Our team will take to the lanes to bowl for glory (but mostly for fun) and to help fundraise for this worthy reading-based mentoring program.

Read Ahead intervenes early and connects children in NYC public elementary schools with caring, trusted, consistent mentors. We’re participating in Strikes, Spares, and Splits because we support their mission to help children unlock their full potential and want to do our part to make sure all students have access to this program.

Research shows that mentoring has a wealth of benefits to children -- especially those from high-need backgrounds -- but unfortunately those students who may benefit most are also least likely to have a mentor in their lives. Through the foundational experience of reading together, Read Ahead mentors give their mentees the confidence, motivation, and support to succeed.

All proceeds from this event enable Read Ahead to bring this life-changing program to the children who need it most. This year the Junior Board aims to raise $100,000!

As a team, we are committed to ensuring that children at public elementary schools like PS. 125, P.S. 36, and P.S.130, where the Read Ahead does not receive corporate funding, can continue to receive the one-to-one mentoring from a caring, trusted adult.
