Each kitten season C.A.R.E. accepts kittens in need of foster home placement from many different sources including Chicago Animal Care and Control (C.A.C.C.), owner surrenders, kittens found by in yards, under porches, and on the sidewalks of homeowners, and kittens born to feral or stray cats that are trapped outdoors. This year in the peak of kitten season we had over 60 kittens in foster care. On average it costs minimally $350 to prepare a kitten for adoption. This includes food, litter, and veterinary care including all immunizations, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery. For these 60+ kittens the cost to C.A.R.E. is at least $21,000. Pretty staggering.

The photo on this page is a Mama cat named Lumi who had 3 kittens born the day after she was brought to C.A.C.C. C.A.R.E. rescued her the same day. Lumi and her kittens have been cared for in a foster home since that day. Also the cream colored kitten that doesn't quite look like it belongs was found under the hood of a car and brought to C.A.R.E. as an orphaned kitten. Lumi was kind enough to accept him and raise him as her own.
