Marty, Opie, Dizzy and I are strutting our stuff at the Annual Strut for Strays to benefit the Community Animal Rescue Effort. [We lost Choo Choo earlier this year--he absolutely loved this event.] We hope you can join us Sept.9 for this walk through the beautiful sculpture garden, but if you are not available, please consider donating to my fundraising page to help us care for the homeless dogs, cats, kittens and puppies at CARE.

I have been volunteering with CARE for almost 30 years, and Marty has been volunteering as a donation can collector for many years and has been volunteering on a dog shift at least two mornings every week for more than a year.. And of course Opie and Dizzy are proud CARE alums. CARE takes in dogs and cats from the Chicago area as well as dogs scheduled to be euthanized at animal shelters in other states. CARE’s major financial challenge is the medical care for our animals. It is not unusual for them to have medical needs that go far beyond regular vaccinations and spay and neutering. Specialty surgeries that will allow them to live full and healthy lives run thousands of dollars.

Volunteer behaviorist and training teams develop protocols for CARE dogs to help them be the best pets possible. Volunteer foster homes provide care for kittens and puppies, as well as dogs and cats that are not doing well in the Adoption Center. CARE doesn’t give up on our animals and works to find a home that will work for each of them.
