In my retirement I have become a kitten social worker!

Help Me Help Homeless Kittens

Each year C.A.R.E. accepts kittens in need of foster home placement and adoption from many different sources including Chicago Animal Care and Control (C.A.C.C.), owner surrenders, kittens found by home owners in yards, under porches, and on the sidewalks, and kittens born to feral or stray cats that are trapped outdoors. We average around 50 kittens in foster homes during kitten season. In calendar year 2023 we adopted out over 140 kittens. On average it costs more than $500 to prepare a rescue animal for adoption. This includes food, litter, and veterinary care including all immunizations, microchipping, and spay/neuter surgery. For these 140+ kittens adopted out in 2023 the cost to C.A.R.E. is at least $70,000. Pretty staggering.

The photo on this page a litter of kittens who came to C.A.R.E. in 2024 with their mama cat. The rescuer brought them in from outside but needed the resources of C.A.R.E. to place them in foster care and pay for the vet care needed to adopt them out. I am proud to say the mama cat and 2 of the kittens have already been adopted. The other 2 are still available for adoption.

Any donation, small or large goes a long way to help me help homeless kittens.
