Dear Friends and Family,

   I usually don't start this fundraising "ask" until the Spring when we have our “Women with Balls” fundraiser. Unfortunately, with the attacks on science, and the cutting of research dollars by the present administration this can't wait until the Spring!  Nearly every person in the US who has been treated for breast cancer in the past few decades has benefitted from the federal investment in medical research. Now all of this is in jeopardy with the cuts made by Congress to lifesaving scientific and medical research. 

    Many of you know of my over 30-year commitment to the National Breast Cancer Coalition.  My mother's death from breast cancer and the privilege of working for over 40 years caring for men and women with breast cancer makes this deeply personal.  The work we do is not like any other breast cancer organization.  It's complex because we work to make meaningful changes in the system by challenging the status quo.  We educate women to understand the science of breast cancer so they can have a seat at the table at all levels where decisions are being made; sitting side by side with the scientists and researchers to set the research agenda.   And, through our grassroots we work to make sure the funds are available for truly meaningful and impactful results. Over the years we have secured over 4.5 billion dollars for the world-wide scientific community. 

  Through the NBCC's Artemis Project - a partnership with advocates, researchers, and scientists we will be launching our Phase 1 clinical trial for a preventative vaccine in breast cancer.  Our Artemis scientists are also researching innovative ways to stop the spread of breast cancer cells-metastasis to other organs, with the goal of preventing deaths.
