I'm raising money for the National Breast Cancer Coalition!
It has been an incredible year and I am grateful for every moment of it. I think back to more than 30 years ago when I was one of about 60 women (and one man) who gathered in Washington, D.C., and decided to challenge the establishment and demand systems change in breast cancer.
Together, we built an organization that has brought about more money for breast cancer research than any other... led to the enactment of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Treatment Act... trained survivors and other advocates in science and put them to work alongside visionary scientists... set a Deadline to know how to end breast cancer by 2020… launched and led the Artemis Project… made possible a Phase I trial for a preventive vaccine… made breast cancer an issue of national significance... and much more. I remain passionate about and committed to our mission to end breast cancer.
If you know me, you know my athletic prowess. It will once again be on display at our annual summit and cornhole (formerly known as bowling) fundraiser on April 26. Yes, I continue my commitment to doing whatever it takes to meet our goals. You will recall that when we began bowling for breast cancer years ago, we did so at a bowling alley. Then we moved to our homes during the height of the pandemic. More recently, we created hotel hallway bowling, with video evidence. Last year, we decided to replace bowling with cornhole. Primarily because we got tired of manually resetting the pins. Same outcome: funds for our work. If you prefer my bowling, I can once again bowl in my mind. Or yours. Or toss a bean bag into a hole. Your choice. Below is a video from last year, which is evidence of my awesome athleticism and my willingness to do pretty much anything to keep NBCC going!
