Right now, this is MY Endgame!

Well, here I am again…raising funds to help ACH Child and Family Services find homes for foster children.  Last year in Tarrant County, 5,842 children were confirmed victims of abuse or neglect. In each case, someone saw signs that something wasn’t right and they reported it. Now think of all the others who have yet to be reported. They’re still waiting for someone to save them from another day in an unsafe situation.

When that day comes, ACH will be there—first with Tarrant County’s only Youth Emergency Shelter. Second, with a foster care program to place these kids with a family who cares. And if these kids can’t return to their biological family due to safety concerns, ACH has an adoption service to find these kids a forever family.

It's the small things that foster family

I’ve talked to families who have, over the years, fostered more than 60 kids. And yes, there is a lot of heartache the day that child is adopted and they have to say goodbye. But they also say that’s the way it should be—you must open your hearts to these kids because no one else has. In my book, in a county that ranks fourth in the state for the number of victims of child abuse and neglect, these families are real heroes.

So on May 11, ACH will honor foster families at our Super Hero Family Fun Fest. All families can come and as this is the third annual event, I can say that it’s great fun. ACH has a 20-acre campus that is fenced in so families can’t let their kids roam the grounds in costume if they want. There will be Superman, Spider Man, Wonder Woman and Black Panther for photo ops and games and even a petting zoo. There’s Kona Ice for them and Big D BBQ for me and you. And it’s all free. Just a day to celebrate the Super Heroes that matter.

And here's how you can help

If you want to help by donating $10 or more to help me reach my goal of $200, that would be awesome and so appreciated. Or if you want to become a foster parent, call me and I’ll help get that set up.

And don’t get me started on Our Community, Our Kids, our division that made Community-Based Care the law in Texas and is now helping other regions replicate this improved model of local child welfare. Just know that once I start talking or writing, well, the story goes on forever and the epilogue never comes.

But that’s just me, by jiminy.
