It has only been since last April that we recieved the tentative diagnosis for Stephen. In September of 2014 our diagnosis was confirmed by a psychologist. Stephen was diagnosed with High-Functioning Autism.  We have been going through speech and occupational therapy since he was18 months old, but I never thought he was on the spectrum. Denial played a huge factor in my thought process. Once recieving the news I went home and joined all the groups on facebook and Instagram to find support, and to ask questions.  It wasn't until we went to a event for Live, Learn and Play that I finally found acceptance and understanding. The Sensitive Santa event was amazing. The vendors were patient, and very informative. Stephen was not alone in a room full of people. even though he didnt take notice.  I signed up to become a volunteer because it has become my passion to raise awareness, provide education, and most importantly be amongst other parents that are in the same battle that my family is fighting.
